Unsatisfied with the generic skate facilities that segregate skaters from public spaces, Tim and I explored a way of bringing skateboarding into the public realm by consolidating public art and recreational activity. We built a series of wooden objects, painted them primary colours, and placed them in under-utilised public settings where we conducted guerrilla film shoots for the documentary SHARE PATH SKATE PATH. This project engaged a huge cross section of the community from all ages who expressed their impressions, concerns and solutions on how to make ‘skate paths’ a viable addition to public spaces, benefitting the community at large.

The project is good; good luck with it. The video’s sound is real muddy…

  5. Dean:

Amazing project you guys are taking on, best of luck to all involved. There is nothing like shredding street, no feeling in the world like it and to be able to do it with complete freedom would be something truly incredible.

great project. Skateboarding should be more involved in public space as sculptures. Look at a project like this, http://www.smart-urban-stage.com/blog/post/otro-skate-park/

I met you both down Scarborough beach and was really impressed with what you’re doing. Unfortunately I was a little shy to speak in front of a camera but I think a skate park will be a great addition to the beachfront. It’s a great inter-generational activity for one in the sense that the young ones do it and the oldies watch and admire and I think it would help to reinforce a positive image of Scarborough as a fun and family-friendly place and in doing so hopefully limit the bad press that the area sometimes get. It’s always good to see young people using their energy in healthy, constructive ways and in the process providing models for others. The City of Stirling would do well to listen to your proposal to benefit both the public and themselves by reinforcing their image of a hard-working and progressive council.

Got something to say?
