In 2017, Skate Sculpture was engaged by the Shire of Boddington to create a concept design for a youth space and skate park in the town of Boddington, 130km south-east of Perth. This concept will lead to a final detailed design upon the Shire raising the funding required for construction.

After inspecting several sites with Shire of Boddington employees, Skate Sculpture presented the two most suitable location options to the youth of Boddington, who were largely in favour of seeing the new facility built in the city centre, near the pre-existing youth centre. With the location decided upon, we spent an intensive day with the local youth, gathering their ideas for the skate and recreational elements they hoped to see incorporated into the design. After the consultation, we held a skate event and BBQ at the pre-existing skate park.

Due to the remote location of Boddington, we deemed it important to offer a large level of diversity in the terrain – for example designing skate-able seating elements on a top-level basketball court, using a stair set with ledges and quarter pipe to join the bottom level, which will have a small street course with a large enclosed flow bowl.

The Shire of Boddington have used the project report, concept designs and the below video to seek the remaining funds required to see this facility become a reality.
